Group music-making makes a massive impact on children’s attitude and behaviour, because it develops their social and emotional skills. Playing together regularly in a group fosters listening, empathy and team-working skills, and boosts mental health and wellbeing.
And it’s not just the children who benefit; it’s a tonic and stress reliever for practitioners too.
- The instruments are easy to learn, inclusive and fun.
- Everything is natural and tactile and works particularly well in SEN settings.
- The teaching support is designed for non-specialists and includes “how to” videos, and activity ideas.
- The approach has been tried and tested in nurseries and kindergartens all over the world.
And because the same Music Kit can be used with any number of classes, it means that every child can benefit from regular music-making – you only need one set of instruments. And you don’t need visiting experts – it really can all be done in house.
Covid Notes
ll you need is a well ventilated space and room for the players to sit in a circle. If there’s not enough space for distancing, players can mask up as it’s all about “learning by doing” – copying and following the leader – and most of the communication is by hand signals and eye contact. After each session just wipe down the instruments with sanitiser. For more detailed COVID advice click here.
