At a glance: classroom egg shakers set

  • 30 natural wooden egg shakers (7cm), in a cotton drawstring bag
  • Sustainable mahogany, beautifully tactile and durable
  • Ages 3–18+; ideal for nursery, primary, SEND and adult beginners
  • Includes Eggtivity egg shaker activity cards and full teaching support

These natural egg shakers come as a set of 30 in a cotton bag, making them an easy-to-store classroom egg shaker set for nurseries, primary schools, SEND settings and community groups. They work brilliantly as egg percussion instruments for circle time, warm-ups, introductions, rhythm games and small-group music activities.

Each wooden egg shaker is individually hand-made from sustainable mahogany, and they not only sound good but look and feel superb as well. The eggs are robust and produce a gentle sound that works well for whole-class and small-group work.

Every 30 wooden natural egg shaker set contains 30 natural eggs (medium, around 7cm tall) and a cotton storage bag, plus Eggtivity egg shaker activity cards. These give you ready-to-use egg shaker activities and ideas for rhythm, counting, language, listening and turn-taking, so you can drop them straight into music lessons, circle time, EYFS provision and SEND sessions without extra planning.

These Egg Shakers can help with all aspects of EY development, including:

Sensory and/or physical needs
* Self-played:
– Strengthens grip
– Wrist twist exercise
– Improves arm co-ordination and exercises joints
– Gentle, non-threatening ‘shuffle’ sounds
– Can you roll it up and down your other arm without dropping it?
– Move up through the size range to challenge grip development.
* Practitioner-facilitated play:
Shaking eggs around the back of the head, from side to side, over the top, from front to back, closer and further away can help ease head turning which is crucial for developing listening and balance skills. Although the dominant ear will almost always lead, it is essential to exercise both sides as much as possible.
Social, emotional and mental health
Many songs afford the opportunity for everyone to join in all together with these simplest of instruments. The value here is that, even with everyone playing, the main song can still be easily heard! It’s so satisfying to be part of a playing community, without feeling the pressure of having to ‘stand out’ or ‘get it right.’.
Over time, students can learn to shake in time or close enough. The softer shake, as opposed to a sharp attack the [striking of a drum or chime with a beater] is less precise so demands less focus in order to ‘fall in’ with the beat. This, in turn, can make it easier for very sensitive. children to feel good about participating and more likely to join in again.
Soft on the ears. A lovely, safe entry-level instrument.
Communication and interaction
Interact between ‘same’ size and ‘little and large’.  Have ‘loud’ and ‘quiet’ talking with each other. Have ‘Mrs Big’ [student shaking the biggest egg] in the middle shaking her rhythm and lots of Mr Littles on the outside of a circle chipping in their own responses.
Cognition and learning
Gently encourages;
– Attention
– Participation
– Listening discrimination, particularly when playing games with ever-increasing/decreasing size egg shakers.

How to Play

This such a good idea and everyone loves collections of things. These eggs are enthralling for children and adults alike because they are so much more than just egg shakers. Children play them, arrange them, sort them, count them, give them out, collect them in, hide them, find them, role-play (mostly being chickens!) with them, tell stories using them, roll them, place them and more. The discoveries and explorations are endless. The eggs are also extremely ‘danceable’ meaning that children seem to want to move around while holding one in each hand. Children often like to take these eggs outside and move around or put them in their pockets.

Please note that in these cases it’s fine to go ahead and place your order, and there’s no obligation on your part until the delivery costs have been quoted and accepted by you.

Returns

Please let us know straight away if anything arrives damaged or otherwise in a substandard condition and we’ll be happy to replace it, refund the cost or provide you with an alternative product to your satisfaction. Speed is of the essence here as most courier companies will only accept responsibility for damage in transit if the damage is reported within 24 hours of delivery.

 In the event of damage, please take photographs, including any damage to the packaging, and email these to us ASAP.

Similarly, if an instrument  develops a fault within 12 months of purchase in the course of normal use (though excluding fair wear and tear), please let us know, and we’ll replace it or refund the cost. It’s also very helpful for us to see photos of the issue as this gives us solid information for changing the design, the production method or the packing materials.

But please do contact us before returning any damaged or substandard items. Once we’ve approved their return, please send to:  Drums for Schools Limited, 21 Shaftesbury Avenue, Burton Joyce NG14 5GL

We really appreciate your feedback in the case of faults (or if you think an instrument could be improved in any way) and we take all such feedback very seriously indeed.

The order arrived safely and we are very pleased with the product. Thank you.
