Gamelan

Gamelan is an Indonesian metallophone-and-gong ensemble for schools. Choose 4–10-key bars and class packs for 15 or 30 players. Gongs range from 12in (30cm) to 32in (80cm). Budget, Standard and Premium builds use recycled steel bars and brass-centred gongs, with western-tuned options such as C major. Selected sets include stands, storage baskets and beaters for quick setup.

Indonesian Gamelan for the classroom blends Metallophones, bossed gongs and shared pulse. Set Metallophones at the front and place gong sets to the rear for balance. Rotate parts often to develop listening and ensemble focus. Use soft mallets, damp bars cleanly, and avoid striking the boss to protect tone.

Start Early Years on Small or Medium 7-key models and simple ostinatos. Add bonang and ceng-ceng for Primary and Secondary colour. Provide clear visual cues for SEND groups and rehearse short sections. Store frames flat; keep beaters by size. Use Gamelan Bags or storage baskets to organise parts. Western-tuned options support cross-curricular work and confident whole-group performance.
