Black History Month Workshops

Develop children's cultural, historical and socio-economic awareness through African Drumming workshops.

-

October is Black History Month and a great opportunity to develop children’s awareness in so many dimensions: cultural, historical, socio-economic . . .

An African Drumming or African Dance day gives everyone an instant cultural immersion and a springboard for learning. And it gives everyone a massive togetherness boost and a fantastic social/emotional workout. African Story Telling, Ancestral Mask Making and Tie & Dye days also make great jump off points for further learning.

Our friends at Ancestral Hands are expert facilitators in a wide range of African cultural activities. Check out the Black History month options they’re offering below, and if you’re interested in taking things further, just contact Kojo with reference “Drums for Schools BHM” and make your booking direct with him. Andy Gwatkin, Director, Drums for Schools

After a classical start at school with violin and piano, Andy fell into the world of jazz in the 1980s, and in the 1990s the "anyone can do it" ethos of punk, playing violin in several punk bands. In the early 2000s he was wowed by the accessibility of world music and "easy to play" instruments, and recognised the potential of world musical styles as a fast track to real music-making for anyone. Andy founded Drums for Schools in 2006 and since then the company's single focus has been on bringing inclusive world musical styles into the classroom.
