Global Beats 2011 Part 1 Gamelan with Andy Gleadhill – Video

Delegates at Warwickshire Music Service’s 2011 Global Beats Conference play one of the pieces from Andy Gleadhill’s Indonesian Gamelan teachers guide. Andy directs the changes in temp from the Kendang (Balinese drum) and you can see how the different sizes of metallophone play different roles — the smaller the instrument, the more elaborate the part.You can also see here how the players use the thumb and forefinger of their free hand to dampen the notes after they’ve been played.
