Description

This African Drumming Percussion Buddies 5 Set works with any classroom instruments. However, it fits West African drumming best when djembes are your main instrument. It lets you add 5 more players to your class at a very low cost. As a result, it’s a smart percussion set for schools.

The set includes 2 Caxixi basket shakers, 2 Seseh shakers, and a natural agogo (agogo bell). You also get Andy Gleadhill’s Percussion Buddies Book. Everything comes packed in a quality cotton carry bag. This gives you simple African percussion instruments and hand percussion instruments that pupils can play quickly.

The Percussion Buddies idea is simple. First, divide the class into pairs of “Buddies”. Next, the pair takes turns on the main instrument. While one pupil plays the main instrument, the other becomes the “Percussion Buddy”. They play a supporting part using one of the percussion instruments. Then they swap several times during the lesson. So both pupils play the main instrument and the percussion. Most importantly, everyone stays involved. There’s no “waiting for my turn”. You can keep the same buddy pairs. Alternatively, you can change buddies whenever you want.

You can use the same method with any class size. You can also use it with any number of main instruments. If you have more than one main instrument for every two pupils, you need fewer buddy pairs. On the other hand, if main instruments are limited, use buddy trios or quartets. In that case, two or three Percussion Buddies share one main instrument.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does this 5-piece percussion set include?
It includes 2 Caxixi basket shakers, 2 Seseh shakers, and a natural agogo (bell). You also get the Percussion Buddies Book and a cotton carry bag.

How does Percussion Buddies work in a djembe lesson?
Pupils work in pairs. One plays the djembe (main instrument). The other plays a supporting rhythm on shaker or agogo. Then they swap, so everyone stays active.

Can we use this set with djembes and other percussion instruments for schools?
Yes. It works with any classroom setup. It’s especially effective for djembe-led West African drumming, because the shakers and agogo add clear supporting parts.

How many extra pupils can join with this set?
This set adds 5 additional players. It’s ideal when you want more pupils involved without buying more main instruments.

What if we have very few main instruments?
Use buddy trios or quartets. That means two or three Percussion Buddies share one main instrument. This keeps participation high even when instruments are limited.
