Indonesian Gamelan - Standard - 30 Player Class Pack - Buddies

The Indonesian Gamelan 30 Player Standard Buddies Pack is ideal for classes of pupils from age 6 and up, as well as for community groups of all ages. This high-quality Gamelan set offers a fantastic balance between sound quality and portability, making it the perfect choice for schools with limited storage space or those needing to move the ensemble between settings.

This Standard pack includes 14 large instruments, including 3 Gongs, a Balinese drum, a 4-pan Bonang for two players, and 9 metallophones. Along with these, there are 15 pairs of Ceng Ceng (Balinese cymbals) used to mark accents and keep time. Together, these instruments provide a wide range of authentic Gamelan sounds, allowing you to easily split your group into pairs, each with a larger and smaller instrument.

The metallophones come in three sizes and are decorated in traditional red, blue, and gold, with metal keys suspended from bamboo poles over individual sound chambers. The set covers three octaves, allowing for versatile playing. Made in Bali, Indonesia, these instruments use high-quality steel keys and compact jackfruit wood casings, ensuring both durability and excellent sound quality. The Balinese drum features two cow skin heads and tuning knots, and the Gong has a bronze centre for better resonance.

For classroom use, all instruments have been specially modified. The metal Gong stand can be disassembled for easy transport, and the metallophone casings have smooth finishes and rubber bases to protect the floor.

Storage and transport are made easier with special Gamelan storage/carry bags (available separately), which help to protect the instruments and ensure their longevity.

Also included are two teaching guides by world music expert Andy Gleadhill: ‘Indonesian Gamelan’ and ‘Percussion Buddies.’ The Indonesian Gamelan book will guide you from basic rhythms to your first performance in just 10 lessons, and includes enough material for a year or more of learning. The Percussion Buddies book provides ideas for developing percussion accompaniments for any ensemble, whether Gamelan, drumming, choral, or ukulele.
