Description
The Indonesian Gamelan Premium 30 Player Class Pack Buddies is perfect for whole-class instrumental teaching and learning for pupils from age 6 upwards, as well as for community groups of any age. With top-quality sound and elaborate casings, it makes a strong visual and musical statement, especially when the Gamelan will have a permanent home or only occasional moves.
This Premium gamelan class pack includes 14 large gamelan instruments: 3 Gongs, a Balinese drum, a 4-pan Bonang for two players, and 9 metallophones. Additionally, it includes 15 pairs of Ceng Ceng (Balinese cymbals) used to mark accents and keep time. This set offers a wide palette of authentic Gamelan music sounds, making it easy to organize the class into pairs, each with a larger and smaller instrument.
The three sizes of metallophones are decorated in traditional red, blue, and gold, with metal keys suspended over individual sound chambers. This gives a range of 3 octaves, ideal for creating diverse Indonesian Gamelan music. All instruments in this set are handcrafted in Bali, Indonesia.
The metallophones in this Premium set use high-quality steel keys and carved jackfruit casings. They are tuned to the same Gamelan Gong Kebyar Pelog Selisir scale as our Budget and Standard packs, ensuring compatibility across the range. The Balinese drum is made from solid jackfruit wood with two cow-skin heads and tuning knots, while the Gong features a bronze centre for improved resonance.
The Indonesian Gamelan Premium 30 Player Class Pack Buddies instruments have been specially modified for classroom use. The metal Gong stands can be disassembled into sections for easier transport, and the metallophone casings have smooth finishes and rubber bases to protect your floors.
Storage and transport are made easier with optional storage/carry bags (sold separately), which prolong the life of the Gamelan and make it safer and easier to move the set for concerts and festivals.
Also included are two acclaimed teaching guides by world-music specialist Andy Gleadhill: ‘Indonesian Gamelan’ and ‘Percussion Buddies’. The Indonesian Gamelan book takes you from your first sounds to your first performance in about 10 lessons, with enough repertoire, ideas, and planning sheets to last for a year or more. Percussion Buddies shows how to add percussion accompaniments to almost any piece, whether Gamelan, drumming, choral, ukulele, or any other ensemble, so you can keep developing the pack across the whole school.
For different group sizes, the Premium Indonesian Gamelan Class Pack Buddies is also available in 10-player and 20-player versions.
There’s also lots of FREE online support – see the “Documentation” section below for free PDF downloads of the Primary Scheme of Work and a very useful Background Article, or click here to see all the Indonesian Gamelan teaching resources, which also include a selection of videos.
