Percussion Plus Slap djembe - 7 inch diameter, 32cm high - pretuned, World

This 'World Slap Synthetic, Pre-Tuned djembe 7 inch' drum has a diameter of 7" and stands 32cm high. It's a great little drum for Foundation Stage and very young players up to age 6, but it's a little too small for two-handed playing by Primary pupils. For a djembe that you can use with all year groups at KS1, better to go for the 8" diameter, and go for the 10" for KS2 upwards.

The pre-tuned design is clean and simple - there are no ropes or adjusters - and the hand prints on the playing head act as useful reminders to players of where they should be striking the drum.

The playing head is made from tough synthetic Mylar, a Dupont plastic that produces are really good sound and is quick and easy to wipe down. It's also waterproof and so won't change in tension if it gets damp (or soaked through!).

The shells are made of polyvinylchloride, the same strong plastic that is used for water pipes, and they're very tough, light and strong. The shells are also very resonant and produce a very full sound. The one-piece shells are covered in a colourfully printed textile "sarong", featuring flags and maps of the world, and have rubber bases that protects the floor from scratches and the drum from cracks.

The pre-tuned world slap djembe 7 inch drums are a great low-cost, lightweight djembe and make a very good starter djembe, particularly for settings that prefer not to use animal skins.
