"A versatile class pack, you could run a small lunchtime club, as well as deploy the additional hand percussion instruments in a variety of settings, including playing accompanying rhythms to the Steel Pans."
— Richard McKerron
Description
This is a set of two of the smallest size of our super double-ended "dundun" stye drums, each with its own beater. They're great favourites with very young children and can be used outdoors, providing they're kept reasonably dry. The drums are very tough. The shells are made from fast-growing bamboo and the skins are extra thick goatskin, and will withstand years and years of use. They're also extremely tactile – made of bamboo, animal hide, string – and make a satisfying thud. They aren't particularly loud and are small enough for children to carry themselves.
These drums can help with all aspects of EY development, including:
Sensory and/or physical needs
Tapping & Banging requiring
Concentrated gross and fine motor skills,
Grip exercise - hand-eye co-ordination, - eye-teaming binocular vision - body positional control - effective postural self-management
Social, emotional and mental health
Rhythmic conversations; call and response activities and games
Explore ranges of emotional tones, such as varying degrees of anger, frustration, assertion, celebration-joy, recognition of others expressions, acknowledgement
Communication and interaction
Powerful essence of tribal communication reaches deep into the psyche. And drums are amazing fun.
Over time, many students learn to listen and play with others in such a way that positively impacts their overall communication and interaction in other areas of life.
Cognition and learning
Rhythmic conversationcan often result in wordplay and exploration of creativity.
The balance and rhythmic challenges, alongside muscle strengthening and co-ordination, stimulate body-brain activity and a willingness to seek organisation within simple musical structures / beats / frameworks.
