"The service received from yourselves has been excellent and the drums and percussion instruments received are just right for me to get started. Already I have a circle running for the home school community which meets every Thursday morning."
— Joanne Skinner, Wikidz Workshops
Description
These colourful cotton canvas tunics, belts and bracelets are washable and practical. They're covered in velcro tabs so it's easy to attach and detach musical instruments, making them ideal for SEN settings and professional musicians alike. Particularly good for players who find it difficult to maintain their grip for long periods. There are sizes for EY, KS1, KS2 and adults and there are a range of natural shaker attachments (pangi, kenari and agogo) and bells available separately. This Kit contains the large sizes of each type of clothing and is suitable for older (bigger) children and smaller adults. Belt fits waists 76cm to 95cm and tunic fits chest sizes up to 100cm.
Please note that our products are musical instruments, not toys, and should always be used under the supervision of responsible educationalists and carers and not left with children under 3 years of age to play with by themselves. Please always follow our simple “Good Practice” guidelines.
This Musical Clothing Kit can help with all aspects of EY development, including:
Sensory and/or physical needs
* Self-played:
Who says you have to use your hands when playing instruments?
Shake, jump, twist, bounce, rock, roll and any other movements you feel like all whilst making terrific sounds.
Is it possible to move from one part of the room to another without making a sound?
How quiet can you make your movement?
How noisy can you make your movement?
Terrific fun especially for those who have mobility, grip and other motor control issues.
* Practitioner-facilitated play:
Lie student on the floor, face up, with tunic covered in instruments, and play all of the instruments on the tunic. Student 'becomes' the instrument. The belt and the tunic can also facilitate torso twisting movements. The student can be twisted by practitioner before twisting themselves in order to help facilitate the movement.
Helps with spinal flexibility and mobility.
*Social, emotional and mental health
Relief from the constant challenge of always having to use hands to do things. Opens lots of opportunities for other types of play using more of your body to make music and sound.
*Cognition and learning
Enables a variety of opportunities for participation in activities, especially for those with mobility and limb co-ordination challenges. Encourages exploration of controlled gross body movement activities and action song games not simply focused on limbs.
With everyone playing without their hands, those without mobility issues can quickly begin to understand and empathise with those who do.
*Communication and interaction
More learning about "what can my body do when I wear these instruments?"
