A Bodhran is a classic Irish bodhran / bodhran instrument (an Irish frame drum) which is played either with a wood beater (sometimes called a bodhran tipper) or simply your hand. The player places their hand on the inside of the drum and controls the tone by stretching the skin slightly. This 16 inch Bodhran Drum (a bodhran drum 16) is 16” in diameter and has the traditional Murphy’s Irish Stout logo printed on the front. It is complete with a beater/tipper and a protective bag (ideal as a bodhran bag / bodhran case).

Frequently Asked Questions
What size should a bodhran be for most players?
For most players, a 16 inch bodhran is the go-to size: it balances volume, bass warmth and control. Smaller drums (12–14″) suit young players and travel; larger sizes can feel harder to manage. If you’re learning, 16″ is usually the easiest all-round choice.
What’s the difference between a frame drum and a bodhran?
A bodhran is a type of frame drum, but it’s traditionally played with a tipper (wood beater) and tone is shaped by the free hand pressing the inside of the skin. Many frame drums are played mainly by hand and may use different playing styles or tunings.
Are Waltons bodhrans good?
Waltons bodhrans are widely used in Irish music and can be a good choice at their price point. As with any brand, check size (like 16 inch bodhran), skin response, rim comfort, and what’s included (a beater/tipper and protective bag) to match your needs.
Does this 16 inch Bodhran Drum come with accessories?
Yes – this 16 inch Bodhran Drum comes ready to play with a wood beater (tipper) and a protective bag. The bag helps prevent knocks to the rim and keeps dust off the skin, which is handy for school storage, travel, and session nights.
