Description
The ‘Gamelan (Gangsa Ugal) - Premium - Large 10 key’ is a the largest and lowest of the 10 key Gangsa instruments that we sell. It has rich, deep tones, is beautifully carved, and is visually arresting to look at. It has rich, clear tones, is beautifully carved, and is visually arresting to look at. It has quality steel keys and a jackfruit hardwood casing.
There is usually only one Ugal in the a Gong Kebyar ensemble, and it is usually female. It is played by one of the leaders of the ensemble and can be used to direct others during rehearsal sessions. It is taller than the other Gangsa, and the player will often sit on a short stool, so as to allow them to cue the ensemble visually with ease, maintaining swift eye contact where required.
The Ugal has a range of two octaves, and is played with a wooden mallet. It is an octave lower than the ‘Gamelan (Gangsa Pemadé) - Premium - Medium 10 key’.
