A very compact, wide top djembe with hand carved interior and great tone. The 8 inch playing head diameter is much wider than most other 30cm djembes and big enough for two-handed playing by children up to around 11 years old. Djembe Drum - 9'' diameter, 35cm high, Wide Top, Natural Wood (Product Code: AD-djwt0835)

Description

SAVE 10% – This model doesn’t have a rubber base but is otherwise exactly the same specification as our normal Djembe Drum 9″ diameter, 35cm high, Pro Wide Top wood.

This ‘9 inch Pro Wide Top wooden djembe’ stands 35cm high and has an 8 inch playing head diameter (±0.5”). The overall diameter is approximately 9 inches. Most other suppliers only quote overall diameter, so what some list as “8 inch djembes” can have much smaller playing heads.

A professional-quality, 35cm high Pro Wide Top djembe with a hand-carved interior and a great tone. The 8 inch playing head is wider than most other 35cm djembes and is big enough for two-handed playing by most children up to around 11 years old. It’s a light, compact small djembe drum, with a low storage footprint, making it an ideal smaller-size drum for Foundation Stage/EYFS and primary age groups.

This 35cm height drum has the same diameter playing head as our smaller 30cm high djembe, and the extra height supports a better bass tone. You can see the relative size of this djembe compared with other Pro Wide Tops in the group photos below.

Each 9 inch Pro Wide Top wooden djembe is made from a single piece of mahogany and has professional-quality, pre-stretched rope tuning and a thick, natural goatskin head for long life and a mellow tone. The drum is smoothly finished inside and out, with no splinters or rough edges.

This top-quality ‘9 inch 35cm high Pro Wide Top djembe’ is designed for serious, long-term use in Foundation Stage to KS2 settings and includes the design features that have made our bigger drums a trusted standard for schools. It also makes a great travel djembe for players who can’t take a full-sized drum with them.

Eco-note: The wood for the drums is certified plantation-grown mahogany and wood products  like these are a great way to store carbon, providing they’re kept for a long time and not thrown away.

Taking care: The drum is very tough and will last for a very long time if treated with care. When not in use keep it in a dry place away from direct sunlight or other heat sources. If it should get wet, let it dry slowly. Above all keep sharp points away from the drum skin, as this is the most fragile part.

Guarantee: The djembe shell is covered by a 10-year guarantee, and the drum skin is guaranteed for 5 years, provided the care instructions are followed. The storage/carry bags are covered by a 2-year guarantee. Please ensure you follow the "Taking Care" instructions to maintain your guarantees.

Frequently Asked Questions

What size djembe do I need for children and primary schools?
For younger players, a smaller drum with a comfortable playing head is usually best. This 35cm Pro Wide Top has an approx. 8 inch playing head, which suits two-handed playing for many children up to around 11 years old and works well for EYFS to KS2.

What does “Wide Top” mean on a djembe?
Wide Top refers to the larger top rim and strike area, which makes technique and control easier. This model is described as 9 inch overall diameter, with an approx. 8 inch playing head (many “8 inch” drums elsewhere have smaller heads).

Is there a rubber base on this djembe?
No — this discounted model does not include a rubber base, but the rest of the specification matches the standard Pro Wide Top version.

Is this djembe covered by a guarantee?
Yes. Djembe shells are covered for 10 years and drum skins for 5 years, when cared for properly (kept dry, stored away from heat/sun, and not over-tightened). Storage/carry bags and accessories are covered for 2 years.
